It was a good run, but the Rancho Solano Prep Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were the victim of a tough 64-39 defeat at the hands of Valley Christian. While losing is never fun, Rancho Solano Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Valley Christian is ranked 35th).
Despite the loss, Rancho Solano Prep saw an underclassman step up: Zoey Pozen scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pozen has scored all season.
Valley Christian found their leader in underclassman Ellie Phillips, who scored 20 points along with three steals. Phillips is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Grier, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Rancho Solano Prep's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Valley Christian, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-2.
Rancho Solano Prep will head out on the road to square off against Highland Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Veritas Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Veritas Prep's defense has only allowed 28 points per game this season, so Valley Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them.
