Baseball Recap: Fitzgerald Drops Season-High Score on Clintondale

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fitzgerald). They put the hurt on the Clintondale Dragons with a sharp 19-4 win on Friday. Considering the Spartans have won four matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Dylan Bush made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Fitzgerald's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, David Nelson and Collin Dancy did most of the damage at the plate: Nelson got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs, while Dancy got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Nelson has become a key player for Fitzgerald: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Baranski, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

Fitzgerald has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Clintondale, their record now sits at 0-2.

Coming up, Fitzgerald will face off against Center Line at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Clintondale, they will challenge Sterling Heights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
