The Athens Academy Spartans and the Columbia Eagles squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the Athens Academy Spartans had to settle for second. Athens Academy was dealt a 53-26 loss at the hands of Columbia.
Athens Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Kj Whitehead, who picked up 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Jamari Welch was another key contributor, rushing for 83 yards and a touchdown.
Leading Columbia to victory were Jadan Baugh and Lamaze Williams. Baugh rushed for 295 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, while Williams rushed for 300 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.0 yards per carry.
Athens Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Columbia, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.
Athens Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Columbia will head out on the road to face off against North Cobb Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Cobb Christian is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
