Burlington hasn't had much luck against Mt. Mansfield recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Seahorses will face off against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m.
Burlington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Vermont's top teams: Champlain Valley Union, who was ranked fifth at the time (Burlington was ranked 15th). The Seahorses fell 3-1 to the Redhawks on Wednesday.
Burlington started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-11.
Despite the loss, Burlington had strong showings from Mae Yenkavitch, who had four aces, and Harper Gutheim, who had two blocks.
Mt. Mansfield not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since October 5, 2024 (when they won 3-0). They blew past St. Johnsbury Academy 3-0. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Hilltoppers: they've now won six in a row.
While Mt. Mansfield might've won, it sure wasn't easy: St. Johnsbury Academy scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-18, 25-22.
Mt. Mansfield's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Burlington, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
Burlington came up short against Mt. Mansfield in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 3-1. Can the Seahorses avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
