Having just played yesterday, the Mullen Mustangs will get right back to it and host the Northfield Nighthawks at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mullen entered their tilt with Aurora Central with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Mullen took their contest at home on Thursday with ease, bagging a 71-41 win over Aurora Central. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 18 more assists than your opponent, as Mullen did.
Mullen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Leslie led the charge by dropping a triple-double on 17 points, 11 rebounds, and ten assists. The contest was Leslie's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anderson Brendle, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Northfield scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They breezed by Columbine on the road to the tune of 94-54. Given Northfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Columbine is ranked 267th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mullen's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Northfield, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Mullen beat Northfield 64-54 when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Will Mullen repeat their success, or does Northfield have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
