The Clay County Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 54-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Poca. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Clay County of the 48-31 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Lindzie Runions had a dynamite game for Poca, scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Runions has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Raynes, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
Clay County dropped their record down to 2-13 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Poca, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clay County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Webster County at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in West Virginia (Webster County is ranked 90th, while Clay County is ranked 96th). As for Poca, they will play host again and welcome Charleston Catholic, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Poca focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Monday.
