Basketball Recap: Joey Burgess Key Part of a Team Effort in Warriors Win

West-Oak won the last time they faced Pendleton and things went their way on Friday too. The West-Oak Warriors came out on top against the Pendleton Bulldogs by a score of 66-56. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West-Oak's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joey Burgess led the charge by putting up 19 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. That's the most points Burgess has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Mobley, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.

West-Oak smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

West-Oak is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Pendleton, their loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15.

West-Oak will challenge Walhalla at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Walhalla will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something West-Oak surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pendleton, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Greenville Tech Charter at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
