The Wayne Academy Jaguars will take on the Bowling Green Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Wayne Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Eight must be Wayne Academy's lucky number: they beat Amite School Center with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Jaguars had just enough and edged out the Rebels 8-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, Bowling Green had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with a 13-3 victory.
Beau Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Alijah Adams looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Bowling Green: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 6-8-1 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Bowling Green got a massive performance out of Easton Jones, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave Jones a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tucker Penton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Bowling Green always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Bowling Green now has a winning record of 10-9-1. As for Wayne Academy, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
Wayne Academy beat Bowling Green 12-7 in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Buccaneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
