Hodgdon is 2-8 against Katahdin since June of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Hawks will head out to challenge the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Hodgdon sitting on three straight wins and Katahdin on five.
Hodgdon proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Wisdom. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted since June 4, 2024.
Daniel Henderson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Duttweiler, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Katahdin gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over Fort Kent.
Josh Martin made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Edwards, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Wyatt Pipes also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Katahdin pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Hodgdon, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hodgdon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 11.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Katahdin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hodgdon couldn't quite finish off Katahdin when the teams last played back in April and fell 8-6. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
