A feisty cat fight will be fought as Williamsburg Wildcats face off against Cincinnati Christian Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Williamsburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Cincinnati Christian will be up against a hot Williamsburg team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went Williamsburg's way against Whiteoak on Thursday as Williamsburg made off with a 9-3 win. That's two games straight that Williamsburg has won by exactly six runs.
Alyssa Vearil spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up ten Ks. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Delaney Donohoo was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaityln Pollitt, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Williamsburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whiteoak struck out ten times.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati Christian beat New Miami 8-5 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Kelsey Stacy made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Stacy was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anna Bowling, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Summer Jordan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Williamsburg's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cincinnati Christian, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Williamsburg has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .481. However, it's not like Cincinnati Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .523. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Williamsburg's way against Cincinnati Christian in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as Williamsburg made off with a 13-1 victory.
