Guilderland and Shenendehowa are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Flying Dutchmen are taking a road trip to take on the Plainsmen at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Guilderland put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. They fell 15-12 to Troy. The Flying Dutchmen have struggled against the Flying Horses recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Travis Berschwinger led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Balleau, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Shenendehowa came out on top against Saratoga Springs on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Plainsmen were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Blue Streaks. The match marked the Plainsmen's most dominant victory of the season so far.
Zachary Milano tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Shenendehowa is undefeated when Milano allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brad Curtis, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Maxwell Jones also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Shenendehowa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saratoga Springs only posted an OBP of .259.
Shenendehowa is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Guilderland, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
Guilderland might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Shenendehowa when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Flying Dutchmen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
