The Princeton Bulldogs are taking a road trip to face off against the Midway Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Princeton's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Midway's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Midway will be up against a hot Princeton squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Bulldogs blew past Goldsboro 11-1 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won six matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Andrew Allnutt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Allnutt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Princeton got a massive performance out of Evan Pate, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Aston Massey, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Princeton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Goldsboro only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, Midway gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top in a nail-biter against West Bladen, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Raiders have posted since March 12th.
Like Princeton, Midway also got a great game from a two-way player: Harry Johnson. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Johnson has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Midway let Wyatt Scott and Wesley Tew run wild. Scott scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Tew scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Camden Wilson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Midway is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Princeton, their record now sits at 10-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Princeton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Midway struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
