Basketball Recap: Fruita Monument's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

After flying high against Aurora Central last Saturday, Fruita Monument came back down to earth. The game between the Fruita Monument Wildcats and the Eagle Valley Devils didn't end well, with the Fruita Monument Wildcats falling 76-60. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Jhett Wells and Karson Weddle certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Wells posted 28 points and six rebounds, while Weddle had 14 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Wells a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Tuning, who put up seven points.

Dylan Zoller continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Eagle Valley, going 9 of 16 on his way to 24 points and eight rebounds. With that strong performance, Zoller is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Parker Newbanks, who posted 15 points and three steals.

Fruita Monument's loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3. As for Eagle Valley, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Fruita Monument will be taking part in a tournament against Ponderosa at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Fruita Monument is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season. As for Eagle Valley, they will head out on the road to take on Grand Junction at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
