Alexandria-Monroe and Shenandoah are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Tigers will challenge the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Alexandria-Monroe knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Shenandoah likes a good challenge.
Alexandria-Monroe proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 victory over Eastbrook. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since April 24th.
Alexandria-Monroe got a great performance from Grayson Gaines as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Gaines has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Owen May, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Adrian Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Alexandria-Monroe lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, Shenandoah's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Knightstown by a score of 6-5.
Collin Osenbaugh put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Osenbaugh was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
Osenbaugh wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Drew Fredenburg, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Aiden Coffey was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Shenandoah's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Alexandria-Monroe, their record is now 14-9.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Alexandria-Monroe has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Shenandoah struggles in that department as they've averaged .490. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alexandria-Monroe skirted past Shenandoah 9-7 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
