Basketball Game Preview: Quitman Bulldogs vs. Edgewood Bulldogs

Quitman is 1-9 against Edgewood since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Quitman Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Edgewood Bulldogs at 6:45 p.m. Quitman has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Quitman is headed into the game having just posted their biggest win since November 14, 2024 on Saturday. They blew past Grand Saline 54-21. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Indians are ranked 863rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Quitman's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Autumn Cason led the charge by going 5 of 7 on her way to 12 points. What's more, Cason also racked up two assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Sadie Vander Schaaf was another key player, putting up eight points and six assists.

Quitman was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Edgewood beat Grand Saline 43-35 on Tuesday.

Quitman is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.9 points per game. As for Edgewood, their victory bumped their record up to 8-18.

Everything went Quitman's way against Edgewood in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as Quitman made off with a 54-33 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Quitman since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
