Basketball Recap: Gering Extends Winning Streak to Four

Gering won the last time they faced Mitchell and things went their way on Thursday too. The Gering Bulldogs blew past the Mitchell Tigers 62-42. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 20 points or more this season.

Gering's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jacelyn Brown led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. That's the most boards Brown has posted since back in January of 2024. Cara Schlothauer also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first rebounds of the season.

Gering smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, Mitchell saw an underclassman step up: freshman Morgan Paetow posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Kate Pieper, who scored nine points.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Gering, bringing their record for this year to 9-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Mitchell, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.

Gering wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-39 win against Scottsbluff on the 31st. Mitchell has also already played their next game, a 61-10 victory against Liberty Tree Academy on the 31st.
