Even though the Douglass Astros scored an imposing 58 points on Tuesday, the Mays Raiders still came out on top. Mays took their matchup against Douglass 66-58. Given Mays' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Douglass is ranked 116th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Mays to victory were Jaqorian Wiggles and Derron Lindsey ii. Wiggles dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds, while Lindsey ii scored 21 points along with seven assists. Lindsey ii is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Davenport Cox was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Despite the loss, Douglass still got an impressive performance from Joshua Mickell, who scored 12 points. The contest was Mickell's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Mays' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.5 points per game. As for Douglass, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.
Mays will head out on the road to face off against Decatur at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Decatur has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 298 points over their last five contests. Douglass will be home for the holidays to greet Banneker at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Banneker has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
