The Pelham Hornets waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top against Bacon County by a score of 66-54. With that win, Pelham brought their scoring average up to 50.8 points per game.
It was another big night for Truth Wimberly, who scored 27 points along with five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Sariyah Chester was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Bacon County's loss came despite strong showings from Makayla Thomas and Marnay'jah Reynolds. Thomas dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 rebounds, while Reynolds scored 24 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Thomas is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaniya Staten, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Bacon County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pelham only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Pelham has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Bacon County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
Pelham will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Georgia (Randolph-Clay is ranked 244th, while the Hornets are ranked 259th). Bacon County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
