Baldwin has gone a perfect 10-0 against Kamehameha Maui recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Warriors at 10:00 a.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Baldwin has seven straight victories, Kamehameha Maui has 14 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Baldwin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Hawaii's top teams: King Kekaulike, who was ranked eighth at the time (Baldwin was ranked fourth). The Bears put the hurt on the Na Ali'i with a sharp 10-0 win on Wednesday. Ten seems to be a good number for the Bears as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Briana Maio-Silva (Ana) was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Kekia Kaaa-Saltiban was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Baldwin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as King Kekaulike only posted an OBP of .316.
Meanwhile, Kamehameha Maui came up short against Lahainaluna on Wednesday and fell 9-5.
Lilinoe Kawaiaea was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Tehani Yamamoto also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Baldwin pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Kamehameha Maui, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Baldwin's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's match. The Bears have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Kamehameha Maui, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Baldwin continue to outrun the ball?
Baldwin took their win against Kamehameha Maui in their previous meeting last Wednesday by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
