After losing to the Grants Pirates the last time they met, the Bernalillo Spartans decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Bernalillo greeted the New Year with with a 57-40 victory over Grants.
Bernalillo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Trinity Calabaza out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten blocks. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Valdez, who scored 22 points.
Bernalillo is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. As for Grants, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.
Bernalillo will head out on the road to face off against Valencia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Valencia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Saturday. Grants won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Gallup at 7:00 p.m. on January 6th. Gallup is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
