Kobe Syder and Connor Dutke were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Syder pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Dutke struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of Wadena-Deer Creek's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). At bat, Syder went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Dutke went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Krekalu, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Carson Davis was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Wadena-Deer Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.
As for Pine River-Backus, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Pine River-Backus' side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Koal Oberfell, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Wadena-Deer Creek will face off against Sebeka at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pine River-Backus, they will square off against Laporte at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
