The Hawken Hawks are on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Saturday, Hawken strolled past Mayfield with points to spare, taking the game 61-44. Given Hawken's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Mayfield is ranked 571st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Villa Angela-St. Joseph didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Gilmour Academy on Friday, but they still walked away with a 75-70 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Villa Angela-St. Joseph.
Villa Angela-St. Joseph's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Antonio Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Quandell Wright, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Hawken pushed their record up to 16-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Hawken couldn't quite finish off Villa Angela-St. Joseph when the teams last played back in January of 2023 and fell 77-74. Can Hawken avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
