C1 District 7 recap October 1, 2013
Gibbon's Jeff Hall rumbled for the longest rushing play in C1 District 7 this season in his game against Adams Central last week. Hall ran for 76 yards on the play and finished with 117 on the day as his team fell to the Patriots.
St. Paul lost to Grand Island Central Catholic 41-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Central City's dynamic duo of Joey Hawthorne and Thomas Geiger proved to be unstoppable against Kearney Catholic, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hawthorne threw for 103 yards and Geiger had 77 yards receiving. Blake Grimes helped Central City's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 30 yards.
The Crusaders' Alex Allen and Jack Tynan have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Allen has thrown for 686 yards this season, while Tynan, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 9 catches for 201 yards. Adams Central's Buzz Niederklein leads the league in rushing yards with 612.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Gibbon takes on Grand Island Central Catholic. Mark McLaughlin's team is currently in third, while Charlie Shoemaker's team is in first.
The Buffaloes made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,073 from 7,482. The improvement was the result of a 28-12 victory over Gibbon last week.
