Anderson-Shiro hasn't had much luck against New Waverly recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Fighting Owls will host the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
New Waverly will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Anderson-Shiro extended their winning streak to four on Friday. The Fighting Owls put the hurt on Crockett with a sharp 20-1 win.
Meanwhile, while New Waverly put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Onalaska. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Wildcats. With that victory, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Breckyn Slott and Kaelynn Stewart made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Slott pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Stewart pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Slott has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Slott scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Stewart scored four runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave Stewart a new career-high.
In other batting news, New Waverly got a massive performance out of Kadyn Fortune, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave Fortune a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kinzie Bartee, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base.
New Waverly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 8.8.
New Waverly has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Anderson-Shiro, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Everything went Anderson-Shiro's way against New Waverly when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Anderson-Shiro made off with a 12-1 win. Will the Fighting Owls repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
