The Dawson County Red Devils will challenge the East Helena Vigilantes at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Dawson County's win against Custer County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Red Devils sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-13 victory over the Cowboys last Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Devils have posted against the Cowboys since May 2, 2017.
Ashley Eaton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Eaton was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Venice Torres was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Hatty Eaton, who went 2-for-6 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only East Helena walked away with it. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Rangers 20-19. The Vigilantes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Maddie Surginer and Sara Dearing did most of the damage at the plate: Surginer went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Dearing went 2-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave Surginer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Stu Rogers, who went 2-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.
East Helena kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The win snapped East Helena's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-11 record. As for Dawson County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
