Lassiter extended the longest winning streak in AAAAAA Region 5 this week by beating Woodstock, 30-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Trojans.
Cherokee moved up to 212 from 252 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 21-7 win over the Warriors helped the Warriors improve their standing.
Wheeler's Elijah Staley and Emanuel Beal have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Staley has thrown for 673 yards this season, while Beal has 15 catches for 273 yards. Tyren Jones from Walton leads the league in rushing with 936 yards.
The top two teams in AAAAAA Region 5 will face off this week when first place Lassiter takes on second place Walton. Last week, Lassiter topped the Wolverines, while the Raiders defeated Cherokee.
Jones of the Walton is only 64 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when Lassiter and Rocky Hidalgo's team meet this week. The Trojans features well-regarded senior Printz while the Raiders has Parker McLeod, a sought after senior.
Josh Shaw's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,398 from 6,574. The advance stemmed from a 21-7 victory over the Warriors last week.
