The Wabaunsee Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the Marion Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Marion took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Wabaunsee, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Wabaunsee never let their opponents score. They blew past Horton 36-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for Wabaunsee, who have now won four games by 24 points or more so far this season.
Among those leading the charge was Wyatt Wurtz, who rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 128 yards and three touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes. Wurtz really tore up the turf during one magnificent 86-yard run. Karsten Breiner also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Marion's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell to Sedgwick 34-28.
Wabaunsee is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Marion, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-1.
Wabaunsee beat Marion 22-14 when the teams last played back in November of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wabaunsee since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
