The biggest upset of the week belonged to Notre Dame, who took down 50th ranked Notre Dame, 21-6.
Joliet Catholic Academy was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating St. Patrick 49-13. The Hilltoppers came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 38 last week.
St. Viator's dynamic duo of Bob Calmeyn and Kevin Hammarlund proved tough for Benet Academy to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Calmeyn threw for 112 yards and Hammarlund had 76 yards receiving. John Balas helped St. Viator's passing attack out by catching two balls for 22 yards.
Ty Isaac was the most productive running back in East Suburban Catholic this week. He ran for 287 yards on 23 carries as Joliet Catholic Academy lost to the Redwings.
Zachary Niro made the biggest impact on defense this week as St. Viator lost to Benet Academy. The 6-foot-3 defensive end racked up one sack.
Brandon New's team's Calmeyn and Balas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Calmeyn has thrown for 951 yards this season, while Balas, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 20 catches for 345 yards. Dan Sharp's team's Isaac leads the league in rushing yards with 570.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Marist takes on the Dons. As it stands, the Red Hawks are in first, while Notre Dame is in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Patrick New's team takes on Nazareth Academy. The Redwings have allowed 44 points this season, while the Roadrunners have given up 103. Benet Academy allowed 0 points last week as it topped the Lions.
Marist extended the longest winning streak in East Suburban Catholic this week by beating Carmel, 28-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for Pat Dunne's team.
