While losing is never fun, Hilton Head Island can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Bluffton is ranked 21st).
Hilton Head Island lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lawton Crose, who scored five points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Jules Mckenna, who scored six points along with two steals.
Tacoya Heyward was her usual excellent self, scoring 31 points along with nine rebounds and six steals for Bluffton. Heyward is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Ja'laina Mosley was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Hilton Head Island has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Bluffton, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
Hilton Head Island will head out on the road to take on Lucy Beckham at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lucy Beckham is on a three-game streak of home losses, Hilton Head Island a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Bluffton will take on James Island at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. James Island is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
