The New Castle Hurricanes are taking a road trip to face off against the Fox Chapel Foxes at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Castle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.7 runs per game this season.
New Castle took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over Mars. While the Hurricanes didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Paul Malley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.
Malley wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Rodgers, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Giovanni Miller was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Fox Chapel came up short against Pine-Richland on Tuesday and fell 8-4. The Foxes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Fox Chapel also got a good showing from Drew Moyer, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Elias George and Joey Geller stepped up to the plate in a big way. George got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Geller went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
New Castle's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-1. As for Fox Chapel, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Fox Chapel's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: New Castle hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. It's a different story for Fox Chapel, though, as they've only averaged .238. Will they be able to contain New Castle's hitters?
New Castle might still be hurting after the 13-4 defeat they got from Fox Chapel in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Hurricanes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
