Softball Recap: Westwood Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After losing to Bergenfield the last time they met, Westwood decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cardinals walked away with an 11-8 win over the Bears on Saturday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Cardinals as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Caroline Rome and Grace O'Dell did most of the damage at the plate: Rome went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while O'Dell went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Pontillo, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

The win got Westwood back to even at 7-7. As for Bergenfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westwood will take on Indian Hills at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Bergenfield, they will face off against Northern Highlands at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Highlanders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
