Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Union Area walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Purchase Line Red Dragons a 12-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Scotties have won 17 matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Mia Preuhs made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
In other batting news, Union Area got a massive performance out of Irelyn Fisher, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Fisher has posted since back in April of 2024. Olivia Benedict was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Union Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purchase Line only posted an OBP of .050.
Union Area pushed their record up to 20-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Purchase Line, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.
As of now, neither Union Area nor the Red Dragons have any future games scheduled.
