The Whitman Vikings are on the road again on Friday and plays the Walter Johnson Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, Whitman came up short against the Coyotes and fell 39-32. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Whitman has scored all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Walter Johnson's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. Their rough 57-35 defeat to Bethesda-Chevy Chase might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Walter Johnson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Barons are ranked 34th).
Despite the defeat, Walter Johnson had strong showings from Norah Youssef, who scored 15 points, and Kendall Alexander, who scored eight points along with four steals. Alexander is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last six games she's played.
Whitman's record is now 9-3. As for Walter Johnson, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.
Whitman took their victory against the Wildcats when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 51-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for Whitman since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
