The Holy Cross Cougars will challenge the Kentucky Country Day Bearcats at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Holy Cross' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Shawnee as they made off with a 15-0 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cougars needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Ace Foley made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Holy Cross is 4-1 when Foley allows one or fewer hits, but 8-13 otherwise. Foley was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Manning, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Mason Lanham was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three runs.
Holy Cross always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shawnee only posted an OBP of .308.
Kentucky Country Day never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Fairdale on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 20-9 victory. Considering the Bearcats have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Holy Cross, Kentucky Country Day also got a great game from a two-way player: Brohm Garlove. On the mound, Garlove pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Brady Butler tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Garlove got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Butler got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and one double.
In other batting news, Carter Jones and Isaac Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Jones got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Miller went 4-for-6 with three runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Ladd, who went 2-for-6 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Holy Cross is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Kentucky Country Day, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.
Everything went Holy Cross' way against Kentucky Country Day when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Holy Cross made off with a 12-0 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bearcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
