The Wausa Vikings scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They claimed a resounding 67-33 victory over Niobrara/Verdigre at home. The win was a breath of fresh air for Wausa as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wausa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Preston Schlote, who scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Schlote scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Bloomquist, who scored 14 points.
Wausa's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Niobrara/Verdigre, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wausa will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Neligh-Oakdale at 8:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Niobrara/Verdigre will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hartington-Newcastle at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
