Sandia waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Los Alamos Hilltoppers with a sharp 18-7 win. Considering the Matadors have won three matches by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Liliana Villanueva made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Faith Wersonick, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Natalie Uecker, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Sandia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
