Paxton is 8-2 against Central since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bobcats will welcome the Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. Paxton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season.
On Tuesday, Paxton came up short against Jay and fell 57-47. The defeat continues a trend for the Bobcats in their meetings with the Royals: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite their loss, Paxton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kenzie Lassiter, who shot 71% from the field to rack up 12 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, was perhaps the best of all. Lassiter also posted two blocks, marking her first of the season. Kenna Cook was another key player, going 5-for-11 en route to 14 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Central). They breezed past Northview to the tune of 68-20 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Chiefs: they've now won six in a row.
Central's win came from a few key players Paxton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Makenna Enfinger, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Jarrett, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 13 points.
Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Paxton fell to 4-1. As for Central, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Paxton has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Paxton came out on top in a nail-biter against Central when the teams last played back in February, sneaking past 48-45. Do the Bobcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jaguars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
