Northeastern got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Unique Blount out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Blount a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Jakeel Stallings, who posted 16 points and six assists.
Northeastern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Hertford County lost to Northeastern on the road by a 69-55 margin on Monday.
Northeastern will have to keep a close watch on Rimiez Williams and Shimere Garris, a pair of players who had a big impact on Hertford County's prior game. Williams went 9 of 15 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds, while Garris dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds. With that strong performance, Garris is now averaging an impressive 8.8 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Powell, who put up six points.
Hertford County's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Northeastern, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Northeastern has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Hertford County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
