The Lyman Greyhounds will be playing in front of their home fans against the Oviedo Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lyman had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past East River 39-16. Given Lyman's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 184th, while East River is ranked 389th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lyman haved a senior duo take command as William Burke threw for 231 yards and four touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes and Davion Jones picked up 93 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Prime, who gained 78 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Oviedo had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 53-14 win over Lake Howell. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-7.
Jackson Latour was a one-man wrecking crew for Oviedo as he threw for 334 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt. Kevin Watson was another key contributor, gaining 151 total yards and a touchdown.
Oviedo's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Aidan Mahaffey and his two sacks.
Their wins bumped Lyman to 6-2 and Oviedo to 5-2.
Lyman was dealt a bruising 43-13 defeat at the hands of Oviedo in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Lyman have more luck at home instead of on the road?
