Lanier is 0-1 against Murrah since August of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Lanier Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Murrah Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Neither Lanier nor Murrah posted many points in their last games could muster much offensive firepower in their last games.
Lanier's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by McComb on the road and fell 61-6. Lanier was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-0.
Meanwhile, Murrah fell victim to Madison Central's stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Jaguars, falling 35-0. While losing is never fun, Murrah can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Madison Central is ranked ninth).
Lanier's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged five points per game. Murrah has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.
Lanier might still be hurting after the 36-13 loss they got from Murrah in their previous matchup back in August of 2016. Will Lanier have more luck at home instead of on the road?
