Brett Huffman made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Delphi Community: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 4-5 otherwise. Huffman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xaine Tessier, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Noah Hutsell, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Eastern typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Rossville proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Comets. Considering the Hornets have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Eli Barnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Rossville got a big performance out of Evan Mcdonald, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was Mcdonald's first of the season. Zac Wainscott was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.
Rossville pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Delphi Community, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Delphi Community has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Rossville struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
