Kankakee Trinity Academy's and the Westlake Christian Academy Eagles's contest on Saturday was close at halftime, but Kankakee Trinity Academy turned on the heat in the second half with 40 points. Kankakee Trinity Academy was the clear victor by a 63-38 margin over Westlake Christian Academy. Given Kankakee Trinity Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while Westlake Christian Academy is ranked 644th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kankakee Trinity Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tommy Kujawa out in front who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. Kujawa is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Luke Green was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Westlake Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being David Magnuson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Howe, who scored ten points along with two steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Kankakee Trinity Academy and bumps their season record up to 10-3. As for Westlake Christian Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
Kankakee Trinity Academy will head out on the road to take on HomeSchool Resource Center at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Westlake Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Mooseheart at 6:30 p.m. Mooseheart is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
