The Oak Hill Raiders will square off against the Sacopee Valley Hawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Oak Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Oak Hill is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Mountain Valley on Thursday. They fell 4-1 to the Falcons. The game marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Izzy Whitaker was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Whitaker wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carlee Austin, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sacopee Valley). They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over Old Orchard Beach on Thursday. The Hawks not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 24, 2024 (when they won 15-0).
Like Oak Hill, Sacopee Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Charlotte Cyr. On the mound, Cyr pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Aly Eastman tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Cyr went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Eastman went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave Eastman a new career-high.
In other batting news, Sacopee Valley got a massive performance out of Adaline Wright, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Bridget Landry, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Sacopee Valley's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for Oak Hill, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Sacopee Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Oak Hill has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Sacopee Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Oak Hill keep running through batters, or will the Hawks buck the trend?
Oak Hill took their victory against Sacopee Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-11 score. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
