Baseball Recap: Spring Lake Park Extends Winning Streak to Five

Spring Lake Park proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Duluth East Greyhounds 4-3. The victory was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on five straight.

Tyler Wilkinson looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sam Flaten was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Jacobs, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Spring Lake Park hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

Spring Lake Park's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Duluth East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Spring Lake Park will venture away from home to challenge Cambridge-Isanti at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Duluth East, they will take on Brainerd at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
