For the second straight game, Spring Mills will face off against Jefferson. The Cardinals will face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Spring Mills has won three straight at home, while Jefferson won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
Spring Mills heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Monday. They came up short against Jefferson, falling 11-2. The Cardinals' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
For Jefferson's part, Brooke Allen and Becca Munslow made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Allen pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Munslow struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Allen went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Munslow went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Savannah Smith and Ainsley Phillips did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Phillips went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Phillips a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline ABE, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spring Mills only posted a batting average of .059.
Jefferson is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Spring Mills, their loss dropped their record down to 18-9.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Spring Mills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
