Grand County had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 9-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Beaver Beavers, falling 13-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Beavers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-3 back in March.
Caydence Bowden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and nine unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Danika Hirschfeld and Kyndee Cluff stepped up to the plate in a big way. Hirschfeld went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Cluff went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
As for Beaver, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.
On Beaver's side, Lexi Hafen made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Hafen has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Danzee Bradshaw was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Lily Wright also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Coincidentally, Grand County and Beaver will both be playing San Juan the next time they take the field. The Beavers will head out to face the Broncos at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Red Devils will head out to face them at 1:00 p.m. on the 11th.
