The Highland Huskies are taking a road trip to square off against the Belleview Christian Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
On Tuesday, Highland came up short against Heritage Christian and fell 3-1. The Huskies have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Highland started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-20.
Meanwhile, Belleview Christian had to endure a five-match losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over Two Roads Charter School on Tuesday.
Belleview Christian had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-23, 25-10, 25-18.
Belleview Christian's win came from a few key players Highland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Galilea De Casas, who had 17 digs and two assists. Those 17 digs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Harjas Thiara, who had 21 digs and four aces.
Belleview Christian was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in three consecutive contests.
Belleview Christian's record now sits at 4-12. As for Highland, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
Highland took their win against Belleview Christian when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
