Gaffney is a perfect 8-0 against Spartanburg since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Gaffney Indians will be playing at home against the Spartanburg Vikings at 7:30 p.m. The matchup will give Gaffney their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
Gaffney's tournament run continued when they took on Boiling Springs on Tuesday. Gaffney took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Boiling Springs. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Maddy Burgess was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Mollie Byars was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Even though they lost, Gaffney hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Spartanburg had to endure a three-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They blew past Eastside 27-3 on Tuesday.
Katelyn Payne made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Payne was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Tori Earle was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Carlee Richards, who went 2-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base.
Gaffney now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Spartanburg, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Everything went Gaffney's way against Spartanburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Gaffney made off with a 10-0 victory. Will Gaffney repeat their success, or does Spartanburg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
