Archbishop Riordan scaled the state rankings by moving to 511 from 613 this week, the biggest jump in West Catholic. The Crusaders climbed the ranks as a result of besting Sacred Heart Cathedral 24-21.
Archbishop Mitty added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating St. Francis, 13-12. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Monarchs.
Zach Masoli put up the best numbers through the air as Archbishop Riordan beat the Fightin' Irish. He finished with 7 completions for 75 yards. Masoli's favorite target this week was Christian Hall, who caught 2 passes for 24 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, St. Ignatius's Ryan Hagfeldt and Joe Lang have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Hagfeldt has thrown for 863 yards this season, while Lang has 22 catches for 283 yards. Kirk Johnson from Valley Christian leads the league in rushing with 766 yards.
Two of the top teams in West Catholic will go toe-to-toe this week when Serra takes on the Lancers. The Padres' offense has recorded 206 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while St. Francis has permitted only 67 on the year.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Wildcats' Lang goes up against Archbishop Mitty's Drew Mount.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when St. Ignatius and Matt Haniger's team face off next week.
Next week's game between John Regalia's team and the Monarchs will feature an aerial matchup as Hagfeldt tests his arm against Mount's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Greg Calcagno's team takes on Serra. The Lancers are currently in third, while Patrick Walsh's team is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when St. Francis and the Padres face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Lancers comes in having scored 178 this season, while Serra has scored 206. St. Francis scored 12 points last week as it fell to Archbishop Mitty.
The Monarchs and the Lancers played the most contested game in the league this week, with the Monarchs eventually emerging with a 13-12 victory. Chandler Ramirez ran for 104 yards during the win.
