The West Grand Mustangs stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 44-9 victory over Caprock Academy. The victory was just what West Grand needed coming off of a 69-40 loss in their prior contest.
Sara Lechman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 11 rebounds and ten steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Makaila Gifford, who scored 11 points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Caprock Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as West Grand racked up 11 assists.
West Grand pushed their record up to 10-4 with that win, which was their third straight at home. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.3 points. As for Caprock Academy, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
West Grand won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Plateau Valley at 12:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Plateau Valley's defense has only allowed 25.9 points per game this season, so West Grand's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Caprock Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Rangely at 2:30 p.m. Rangely will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Caprock Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
